FST UIN Jakarta and Metallurgical Research Center - BRIN Nanotechnology and Materials Research Organization Collaborate on Redmud Research for Sustainable Environment

On Monday, April 28, 2025, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta signed a research collaboration agreement with the Center for Metallurgical Research – Nanotechnology and Material Research Organization (PRM-ORNM), under Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). The collaboration centers on extracting valuable metals from bauxite processing waste, known as redmud. The Mining Engineering Study Program of FST has been appointed as the project coordinator.

This joint research aims to recover valuable metals such as iron, silica, and rare earth elements from redmud, while also addressing the scientific challenge of recycling and optimizing industrial waste. The project is expected to contribute to environmental preservation, better resource utilization, and the advancement of sustainable technology rooted in scientific innovation.
