Plant a Tree, Plant a Hope: FST UIN Jakarta Launches Green Movement to Replace Flower Boards with Live Trees
Embodying the spirit of environmental sustainability, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta launched the "2026 FST Tree Planting Movement" on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Held at the FST courtyard, the event carried the inspiring theme: "Plant a tree, plant a hope."
The movement was initiated by the Dean of FST, Prof. Husni Teja Sukmana, Ph.D. In a creative shift towards sustainability, Prof. Husni introduced a new policy replacing traditional flower boards with fresh plants as a form of congratulatory gesture. This initiative aims to reduce waste and contribute directly to the ecosystem.
During his speech, Prof. Husni expressed his hope that this small step would inspire other activities and institutions. "We hope this initiative can be implemented in various events, providing long-term benefits for all living beings and the planet," he remarked.
A total of 17 trees were planted on the FST campus grounds, while the remaining saplings were designated for planting at the Agribusiness PPG Garden in Sawangan. Through this movement, FST UIN Jakarta reinforces its commitment to being a "green campus" that prioritizes ecological health alongside academic excellence.
